JHC FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1) What is the Miss Nevada Jr. High, High School, and Collegiate America Pageant? The Nevada Jr. High School, High School, and Collegiate America Pageant is an official state preliminary pageant for the Miss Jr. High, High School, and Collegiate America National Pageant. The winners of the Nevada state pageant will go on to compete at the national pageant in Little Rock, Arkansas in June 2025.

2) How are the divisions determined? The divisions are determined by your grade level. Girls in 5th-8th grade qualify for Jr. High, girls in 9th-11th grade qualify for High School, and girls in 12th grade or girls enrolled in college, university, beauty school, or trade school qualify for Collegiate. Contestants may be no older than 27 years of age as of August 1st, 2024.

3) Why do I have to compete in Collegiate if I am in 12th grade? The National Pageant date and year of reign determines the divisions. The National Pageant will be held in June of 2024. If the Nevada Collegiate titleholder wins the national title, they would reign during their freshman year of college. So yes, the majority of your reign as the Nevada titleholder would be during your senior year. The judges know this rule. Please contact the state office if you still have further questions as to how the age division you are to compete in is determined.

4) What are the phases of competition? Contestants will compete in Interview (40% of the score), Evening Gown (40% of the score), and Runway Fashion (20% of the score).

5) How is the contestant order determined? A random selection process, prior to pageant weekend, will determine the order of contestants. This gives everyone a fair chance to come out first, last, or somewhere in between.

​

6) How does interview work? Contestants will participate in a 5 minute, panel style interview. Girls are asked to wear and interview style dress, pantsuit, or sundress. Please wear shoes that you can stand in, as you will be standing in front of the judging panel. There will be no political or controversial questions, and most topics will be based off your contestant bio sheet. 

​

7) Is there an on-stage question? No. However, the contestant will introduce themselves during the opening number.

​

8) What do I wear for Runway Fashion? Runway Fashion wardrobe should be a high fashion outfit of your choice. Pantsuits, cocktail dresses, off-the-rack high fashion outfit, or sundress are some examples - anything that shows your personality and personal style. Props of any kinds, hats, denim, and flip flops are not allowed. Two piece outfits are allowed.

9) Can I have a routine? No full routines please. You will be provided with the walking pattern prior to the competition. Glitz routines will not be allowed.

​

10) What do I wear for evening gown? This phase of competition is a moment for the contestant to shine. Gowns should be prom or pageant dresses that are age appropriate, yet fit the girls personality. The gown MUST be floor length all the way around. Jr. High contestants MUST have a ball gown or a full skirt on their dress, High School may have any style dress but the slit may not go any higher than the knee, and Collegiate is allowed to wear any gown of their choice. Please keep all gowns age appropriate. You do not have the most expensive gown to win as this phase of competition is more about how the contestant graces the stage with her poise and personality

11) Are rehearsals required? Yes, all rehearsals are mandatory unless you have made specific arrangements with the state directors. 

​

12) Are rehearsals open to family and friends? No, all rehearsals are closed and only contestants will be allowed in the rehearsal space.

​

13) What should I wear to rehearsal? Cute and casual clothes. Keep in mind that photos will be taken throughout pageant weekend. 

​

14) Can I wear my hair in pin curls/rollers to rehearsal? Yes! 

​

15) Will there be chaperones? Yes, there will be multiple staff members chaperoning during pageant weekend. We do ask that contestants let a staff member know where they are going, in order to ensure that everyone is safe and accounted for. 

​

16) Is makeup allowed? Yes, however, we ask that you ensure makeup is age appropriate. Judges want to see the genuine girl!

​

17) Do we need to hire a hair and makeup artist? No, you do not need to hire a hair and makeup artists. Many girls like to do their own hair and makeup, but you are allowed to hire someone if you chose. It is completely up to you and has bearing on the outcome of the pageant. 

​

18) Will food be provided? Girls will be released to enjoy meals with their families. We will be providing some snacks and goodies during the weekend.

​

19) What are we wearing for opening number? We are asking everyone to where a white cocktail dress for opening number. Please ensure dresses are age appropriate and keep in mind that you will be doing some motions during the opening number. We are also asking that each contestant wear nude shoes/heels with their dress. 

​

20) Will the opening number and walking patterns be provided before the pageant? Yes, contestants will be provided links to watch the videos showing the walking patterns and opening number. We ask that you come prepared with a knowledge these. 

​

21) Are there any other awards given? Yes! There will be photogenic, class favorite, and community service awards given for each division depending on the size of the division. These extra awards have no bearing on the overall outcome of the pageant. 

​

22) Will there be a top 10? The top 10 will be determined based on the number of contestants in each division.

​

23) How many runner-ups will be awarded? This number is dependent on the number of contestants in each division. It will be between 1 and 4 runner ups.

​

24) Can my parents and family take pictures or videos during the pageant? We ask that there be no video recording or flash photography of any kind during the show. We have a professional videographer and photographer that will be capturing the show. They will have packages available for purchase.

​

25) Will a chaperone/helped be allowed backstage during the pageant? No. We want to give families the opportunity to watch the show, so parents or family members will not be allowed backstage. We have lots of staff backstage that is happy to help. All contestants are required to stay backstage until the competition of the show. 

​

26) Can I get my scores after the pageant? Yes, we are glad to provide you with the feedback from the judges. Please send us an email after the completion of pageant weekend.

​

27) Is there a non-compete clause? If you were to win the title of Miss Nevada  Junior High, High School, or Collegiate America, you will not be permitted to compete in any other pageant during your year of service, without prior authorization from the state directors. Furthermore, you may not compete in a similar style pageant, which goes on to a state or national level, prior to competing at Miss Jr. High, High School & Collegiate America Pageant in June 2025. The title of “Miss Nevada Junior High, High School, or Collegiate America” supersedes any other title that you may hold at the time of the competition (Please speak to us if you hold a current title so we can discuss your individual situation.)
