ELEMENTARY FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1) What is the Miss Nevada Elementary Pageant? This is the sister pageant to the Miss Nevada Jr. High School, High School, and Collegiate America Pageant and is an official state preliminary pageant for the Miss Elementary America National Pageant. The winners of the Nevada state pageant will go on to compete at the national pageant in Little Rock, Arkansas on June 2024. Seven national winners will be crowned and awarded a prize package currently valued at $10,000, including a $5,000 cash scholarship. The national divisions will include Pre-K/K, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th grade as of Fall 2024.

2) How are the divisions determined? The contestants grade determines your division, not their age. The number of girls crowned will be based on the number of pageant participants. 

3) What are the phases of competition? Contestants will compete in Interview (30% of the score), Evening Gown (40% of the score), Runway Fashion (20% of the score), and Community Service (10% of the score)

4) How does interview work? Contestants will participate in a 2-3 minute, panel style interview. Contestants are expected to have dark denim shorts, a white t-shirt, and shite tennis shoes. You may accessorize with a white bow or headband. There will be no political or controversial questions, and most topics will be based off your contestant bio sheet.

 

5) Is there an on-stage question? No, not for the Elementary Divisions.

6) What do I wear for Fashion Runway? Fashion Runway wardrobe should be a high fashion outfit of your choice. Pantsuits, cocktail dresses, off-the-rack high fashion outfit, or sundress are some examples - anything that shows your personality and personal style. Props of any kinds, hats, denim, and flip flops are not allowed. Two piece outfits are allowed. Outfits may be 2 piece by NO midriff can show.  

7) Can I have a routine? No full routines please. You will be provided with the walking pattern prior to the competition. Glitz routines will not be allowed.

8) What do I wear for evening gown? Dresses must be long; no cupcake dresses. This is based on the national pageant guidelines. Contestant must have a full or ball gown, depending on length.  Must flare from waist.Styles and colors should fit the girl and her coloring. No specific color or style is required. However, keep in mind that the dress must be “age appropriate”.You can find state and national quality dresses for less than $300. Many contestants even borrow dresses from other pageant girls or wear their Sunday best.

9) What is the reason for a community service project? We believe that our youth should learn the importance of giving back at a young age. Our national system puts a big emphasis on community service and requires each titleholder to do a minimum of 10 hours of service to get 10% of their national score.

 

10) What do I need to bring to get the 10% of my score? Bring your favorite new book or new school supplies. Please keep your donations under $20. The new titleholders will donate these items to various charity organizations. There is no need to wrap them; bringing items in a bag or box is just fine. Bring these items at registration and get the full 10% of the community service score.

11)  Are there any other awards given? Yes! There will be photogenic, class favorite, and community service awards given for each division depending on the size of the division. These extra awards have no bearing on the overall outcome of the pageant. Mini-optionals may also be entered for an additional fee.

12) Are rehearsals required? Yes, all rehearsals are mandatory unless you have made specific arrangements with the state directors. 

13) Are rehearsals open to family and friends? No, all rehearsals are closed and only contestants will be allowed in the rehearsal space.

14) What should I wear to rehearsal? Rehearsal clothes are listed on the contestant schedule. Photos will be taken throughout rehearsals.

15) Can I wear my hair in pin curls/rollers to rehearsal? Yes! 

16) Will there be chaperones? Yes, there will be multiple staff members chaperoning during pageant weekend. We do ask that contestants let a staff member know where they are going, in order to ensure that everyone is safe and accounted for. 

17) Is makeup allowed? For on-stage competitions ONLY. Makeup is prohibited during the interview phase. PLEASE make sure makeup is age appropriate. Judges want to see the girl and not have to look through the makeup. No false lashes, fake teeth, or falls/wigletts.   

18) Do we need to hire a hair and makeup artist? No, you do not need to hire a hair and makeup artists. Many girls like to do their own hair and makeup, but you are allowed to hire someone if you chose. It is completely up to you and has bearing on the outcome of the pageant. 

19) Will food be provided? Girls will be released to enjoy meals with their families. We will be providing some snacks and goodies during the weekend.

20) What are we wearing for opening number? A white dress of choice will be worn for opening number. Small jewelry and hair accessories are allowed. Shoes must be tan.

21) Will the opening number and walking patterns be provided before the pageant? Yes, contestants will be provided links to watch the videos showing the walking patterns and opening number. We ask that you come prepared with a knowledge these.

 

22) Will there be a top 10? The top 10 will be determined based on the number of contestants in each division.

23) How many runner-ups will be awarded? This number is dependent on the number of contestants in each division. It will be between 1 and 4 runner ups.

24) Can my parents and family take pictures or videos during the pageant? We ask that there be no video recording or flash photography of any kind during the show. We have a professional videographer and photographer that will be capturing the show. They will have packages available for purchase.

25) How do I order photos or a video? Photo packages include interview, rehearsal and show pictures. Order form is included in the contestant packet or will be available pageant weekend. Video orders are separate. More details, about ordering the video, to follow

26) Will a chaperone/helped be allowed backstage during the pageant? For the elementary divisions, we will allow only one (1) female chaperone in the dressing room area. This parent will be given a special stamp to identify them. The chosen chaperone will still need a ticket to watch the show, after changing their contestant; they may go back in forth to watch the show and change their contestant. The designated chaperone, or any other family and friends, will not be allowed in the backstage area. We will have our production staff in that area to assist the girls to the stage. Enjoy from the audience! At the conclusion of the pageant, one female family member/chaperone is allowed to assist with gathering your items. All contestants are required to stay backstage until the end of the pageant.

27) Can I get my scores after the pageant? Yes, we are glad to provide you with the feedback from the judges. Please send us an email after the completion of pageant weekend.
